Saint-Gobain Solar Power
About Saint-Gobain Thermosolar...
Saint-Gobain Solar Power
Saint-Gobain decided to play a key role in the Solar field especially in Concentrated Solar Power technologies. The goal of CSP is to design solar power plant which produce electricity from concentrated solar heat. Saint-Gobain produces components, pads, mirrors and central towers.
A strong development of solar activities are expected around the world. For instance in the USA the capacity installed amouted about 420 MW of solar power plants. But 7 000 MW of new projects were in the pipe, they are mainly of big size: 75 to 550 MW.
In Spain there are more than 12.000 MW of projects in study. A power station size is about 50 MW and the parabolic mirrors is the main used technology.
Saint-Gobain CSP regroups all activities among Saint-Gobain Innovative Materials which design components for Solar Power Plant. From mirrors to thermal storage we developped innovative technologies to offer the best with the sun energy.
Saint-Gobain Solar
Saint-Gobain, the global leader in products for the construction market and one of the world’s leading glass manufacturers, has set its sights on providing innovative solutions to meet two of tomorrow’s key challenges: environmental protection and energy conservation.
Present on the solar market since the early 1980s, Saint-Gobain has decided to reassert its belief in solar power as an important source of energy for the future by setting up Saint-Gobain Solar.
This new division aims to build strategic customer partnerships, and offers added-value solutions that can only be provided by a large, global business with a vast logistics network and strong local affiliations.
A pioneer in the solar energy field and already a major supplier of products and solutions for this fast-expanding market, Saint-Gobain was one of the first companies to recognize the manifold benefits of concentrated solar power, which include the production of electricity, steam generation, desalination, ventilation, and cooling systems.
As an ecologically sound and increasingly viable alternative to fossil fuels, and boosted by government subsidies and mandates, solar energy is fast on its way to becoming the world’s next major energy resource, with Saint-Gobain Solar a reliable global partner and provider of eco-friendly products and services.

Saint-Gobain
The Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, built almost 350 years ago by the newly founded Saint-Gobain, bears witness to the durability and quality of products supplied by the global number 2 player, and Europe’s leading glass manufacturer. To maintain its leading position in the global marketplace, Saint-Gobain is fully committed to investing each year in R&D.
Saint-Gobain is the world leader in the habitat and construction markets, designs, manufactures and distributes building materials, providing innovative solutions for energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Today, the Group has 16 research centers worldwide and employs around 3,500 researchers generating over 300 patents per year. Approximately 3% of net sales are dedicated to research in the Innovative Materials Sector which comprises glass, thin layers, ceramics, plastics, and other performance materials. Specially developed for the CSP market in close cooperation with its customers, the company’s R&D innovations regularly lead to the development of special prototypes, particularly in the solar mirror field. Bundling their years of experience and expertise, Saint-Gobain has recently established the world’s largest parabolic mirror facility in Lisbon, Portugal.
